How To Make Your Home More Dog Friendly

Besides the satisfaction that life with a dog brings, you have to be prepared for certain obligations that are part of the everyday man-dog relationship. Apart from making sure that your dog is healthy, happy and satisfied, it is important to make your home as much “dog friendly” as possible. Times when dogs used to live in dog houses are way behind; now days dogs are welcome indoors, so we need to do as much as we can to make them feel comfortable. I’m a proud owner of the cutest Cocker Spaniel in the world and here is what I did to make her feel at home.

Easy way get in and out

I live in the house with a big backyard, so installing a dog door was the first thing that I did to make my home more dog friendly. It made my and my dog’s life so much easier. This system has multiple door position. Dog can constantly go in and out, or door can be locked in one position, so she can just come in or out. This is very convenient, because I let her out in the morning, before I go to work, and she stays in the backyard until I come back. If you have a backyard and your dog is not too big, make sure to get one of these doors.

Place to sleep and relax

The dog should be provided with a cozy corner where it can rest but, at the same time, keep track of everything that are going on in the house. Is your dog going to like the spot you chose for it, you’ll see by its reaction. Dog will avoid the place if it doesn’t like it. It is the best to let your dog to find a right spot and all you have to do after that is to put soft, warm and comfortable blanket there. Dogs do not belong in the kitchen, bedroom or nursery. My dog found her cozy spot in the living room.

Dog waiting

The dog must be fed always in the same place and at the same time (otherwise it gets cranky, trust me). Feeding area shell be somewhere where dog can eat in peace and on the floor which is easy to clean, because the space around feeding bowls will certainly be dirty. Keep the water bowl full at all times.

You love your dog but cannot stand its hair? This is completely understandable, especially if you or your family member have allergens or asthma. I was talking with professional north Sydney cleaners and they told me that the best way to remove any allergens from home is to do complete domestic cleaning at least once a year and also, if you want to make your life easier you should think about removing carpets from every room you can.

Looking Dog

Bearing in mind that this article is not only about dog owners, the question is what to put on the floor when you remove the rugs to make your dog feel comfortable. In my opinion bamboo and/or cork flooring are the best solutions. My choice was cork because it is soft, quiet option which absorbs sounds very well. It is comfortable for dogs to walk on and easier to clean than the carpet.

The dog is a social creature with a certain amount of individuality. If you are planning to get a new puppy, it is important to consider why you want it. Do you need the company, or guardian dog? Whatever the reasons are, it is very important to provide the future pet with an appropriate accommodation.
